Within the past decade or so, there have been some interesting linguistic trends relating to the female nether-regions. The following article from Cosmo magazine highlights a few, such as:
va-jay-jay
vadge
vattoo
vajazzling
The origin of the first is credited to either Oprah Winfrey or use of it on the t.v. show, Grey's Anatomy.
According to the online resource, UrbanDictionary.com, it is a slang term for vagina. The Corpus of Contemporary American English shows the first citing of the term in Cosmo magazine in 2009. Two more citings occur in 2011 - one more from Cosmo and one from Redbook magazine. All three use the term in the same way, referring to the female genitalia.
Another recent term used to describe the afore-mentioned region, vadge, can be tracked on Ngram all the way back into the 40s, although I was not able to track down the meaning of the term back then to see if it was the same. COCA lists it's usage back to 2006 in ArtAmerica magazine - as a pseudonym used to request funds for artists to have hot showers and marijuana. The rest of the seven citings are attributed to Cosmo magazine in 2010 and 2011, all used to refer to the vagina.
Vattoo and Vajazzling are recent terms used to refer to new cosmetic trends for the female reproductive region. UrbanDictionary.com denotes the first term as a permanent tattoo on the pubic area, whereas the Cosmo article linked above states that the application can be temporary. Vajazzling means basically the same thing across the board, Coca credits only two citings of the term to Cosmo magazine in 2010. Here, Jennifer Love Hewitt discusses the trend:
It's interesting to track the evolution of the development of these terms. I wonder how much further the evolution will carry . . .
